Two Holidays and Two Vacations Later...

So, I knew being consistent might not be my strongest characteristic on this blog, but I'm back and have some projects in mind to hopefully keep me busy here. In the meantime, I got busy with other things, like St. Patrick's Day (I ran 4 miles!), a visit from my parents, a visit from my aunt and cousin, a trip to Portland and Seattle, a wedding, a visit to my parents, Easter, Santa Barbara... This isn't in any kind of order and is really just my string of excuses for not posting anything. Next time I have a two month lapse, I will be sure to not stop on a holiday, so my absence is a little less glaring.

Hopefully, this is the start of a good string of posts. Although, one of my main before and afters will have to be my cover letter for job applications, so prioritizing does have to happen. But, really, I do have some plans, so fingers crossed.

For today, I have a little project that I have had done for awhile, but just got my finished pictures. I have been wanting to try chalkboard paint and since I was over the yellow of this vase, I thought this could be the perfect candidate for my trial in chalkboard.

I used Valspar chalkboard paint. I had thought I could get it as a spray paint, but not at Lowe's, so I ended up with this larger can than I had planned. Oh well, remember how I mentioned I have plans? Well, obviously some of them involve chalkboard paint.

After the first coat, I was a little nervous it wouldn't be the smoothest paint job, or that it would never completely cover the vase.

But after about four very thin coats, the vase was completely covered and looked even. I think because it is black, the paintbrush lines are less obvious.

I liked the black, so I kept it just plain for awhile (also I couldn't find chalk anywhere).

But I have since found chalk and drew a design. I love that I can essentially have a new vase everyday, if I want! I can't wait to have a reason to write some kind of sweet note on it. (Like "Happy Birthday!" or "Welcome Home, Tony Joe!" or "Hot. Hot. Hot.")

So, the creative juices are starting to flow again and I am looking forward to getting back to it. My fingers are itching for productivity (and they're really not thinking of the kind where you write a letter trying to convince someone to hire you- but I promise they'll do that too :)

Welcome back to the Hinterland, my friends!
