With the best of intentions, I collected Valentine cards that I thought I could recreate and send to those I love. Unfortunately, February 14th came and I never made it to the post office. So, Happy Valentine's Day! That seems so lame, but I hope you know that my loved ones are always on my heart and mind.
Since the Hinterland didn't need a post office visit to get ready for the holiday, I did put some decorations up that I made with paint chips (because I LOVE paint chips, so it seemed appropriate for the day).
I also punched out little hearts and strung them across the window. It is strange that every time I take a picture of that window it is cloudy out, that's not really a reflection of the weather norm. Oh well, the hearts look cozy with the rain clouds in the background.
This is my Valentine's gift from Martin.... I'll let you know when I frame it and hang it, but I couldn't help but show it off. Most of my art is random thrift store or printed from the computer or I made myself, so I feel like this is my first real piece of art. We were wandering around the Hillcrest Farmer's Market and an artist had a stand with his work. I love the simplicity of the silhouettes. And something about girls and wolves, I love that in art. That sounds so weird, but I remember reading this reworked version of Little Red Riding Hood in a Woman's Lit class and for some reason that piece stood out to me. There's a quote in it that says, "Realizing that fear did her no good, she ceased to be afraid." It's perfect.
This poster makes me think of that. Martin saw the art and said it made him think of me and the type of art I like so I got to pick my favorite as a gift. The piece is called "Escape" and I forget the artist's name, but I'll figure that out.
I also got this perfect knitted headband from my momma. I think I must have gotten my love of DIY and craft from her.
So, I'm off to eat some chocolate, because it's Valentine's Day, so I can. Tomorrow I won't eat any :)
