Here's the view:
In the top picture, you can see the canyon views, while in the second photo you can see the backyard views (the family has a good collection of slides, these are just a couple).
Originally, I had my couch against the window wall, facing the kitchen area. It just seemed more open that way. Martin has tried to convince me for awhile that the couch needs to be facing the window. Finally, one afternoon, we switched it.
I was hesitant at first, because my storage was somewhat gathered around the sides of the couch under the curtains. (When you live in 300 square feet, sometimes you have to use the curtains for storage....)
Anyways, I am probably breaking some cardinal rule of small space design, by putting the couch in the middle of the room, but I think I love it. I made some adjustments to the clutter, and it really is coming together.
It feels like a separate space for the living room, and I really like that. I think a rug is just what I need right there (and I have plans for that, of course)....
Granted, people sitting on the couch are no longer facing the table where the rest of the sitting is, but it's such a low couch that it won't matter. And its weird that I imagine my house full of people at some cocktail party or something, since that it isn't too likely to happen. So, I really don't need to be too concerned about the encouragement or discouragement of conversation that the layout creates.
Now, when I sit on my couch in the morning and drink my chai tea, this is the view I have. It's quite pleasant.
I'll let you know if any top secret slide movements occur....
