Edelweiss

I have been trying to catch up in the blog so I could get to this post. After Morocco, we flew back to Italy. Oh, pizza and pasta, it's so good to see you again.

We spent two days in Venice. Well, we spent one day wandering around Venice, then one day watching tv and eating pizza (it was Sunday, we needed a day of rest). Venice was beautiful, but our patience for cities is waning.

Fortunately, from there we took the train to the Dolomites. The Italian Alps. Oh, we were a happy couple arriving in the mountain air. It was a good reminder of how much we love the mountains.

It was so wonderful stepping off that train. We took a bus further into the mountains and stopped in one of the highest towns of the Val di Funes, where our guesthouse was. Gasthof Edelweiss.

It is nestled just below these amazing mountain peaks.

We spent the afternoon just walking around the hills above the town watching the mountains. The houses are all very German, and most of the people speak German. Our dinner was schnitzel!

It's so wonderful here. The next day, we took the bus up further for a day of hiking. We walked this gorgeous loop that took us from impressive views of the peaks, to sitting just below them. The clouds came in and out all day, and we got some rain, but it was a spectacular day.

Our last day in Italy, we spent in Bolzano. It is a cute little town at the foot of the mountains. We walked around awhile and went to the Iceman museum. It is where the 5000 year old mummy of a man found in the Alps is kept. It was a fascinating museum with so much research about life in the Copper Age. It was very impressive.

And now we are on a train winding our way through the mountains. We just stopped in Innsbruck, Austria and will stop in Munich.

This was an absolutely necessary stop, I think it rejuvenated us for the last month of traveling. We've also started wondering where we could find jobs as close to the mountains as possible. We need mountains in our life.
